Where to Surf in Indonesia
Indonesia is world famous for its surfing waves, thanks to its coastlines that overlook the Indian and Pacific oceans. There are many places in Indonesia where you can surf , but some of the most popular are :-
- Bali : The island of Bali is the most famous surfing destination in Indonesia, with waves to suit all levels of experience, from Kuta Beach to the famous waves of Uluwatu and Padang Padang.
- Lombok : Lombok is an island near Bali with calmer waves than its sister island, but still has some world-famous waves like Desert Point and Gerupuk.
- Mentawai : These islands off the west coast of Sumatra are known for consistent, world-class waves, including the famous Macaroni’s and Lance’s Right waves.
- Sumatra : The west coast of Sumatra also has many beaches with waves for surfing, such as Krui and Nias.
- Sumbawa : Sumbawa has some of the biggest and most powerful waves in Indonesia, such as Lakey Peak and Scar Reef.
Generally, the best surfing season in Indonesia is from April to October, when the waves are the biggest and most consistent. However, you can find surfing waves all year round in some of the areas mentioned above. It is important to note that some of the beaches and islands mentioned above are remote and require a boat trip or domestic flight, so you need to plan your trip carefully to reach these surfing destinations.
